BoxIt is a low-friction, low-resistance, visually-driven personal inventory application, allowing you to very quickly catalog items by simply snapping a photo, and then even more quickly visually identify and locate that item in the future. The original idea behind BoxIt was to solve the problem of trying to find something that was packed in a box and put in a closet or on a shelf, and having to dig through ALL the boxes trying to find that thing, often to only give up.
About 3 years ago, while packing my mother-in-law’s house, getting her ready to move, I realized that we always have our phones next to us, and that if we could just snap a quick picture of each thing before we wrapped it and put it in a box, later we could just look for that picture in a list and find out which box it is in without having to dig through tons of other boxes to find it.
Using the original test version of the app, we tested it during our recent move to a new home, and discovered that it worked even better than we had thought! I then started seeing uses for this concept beyond just moving, like that storage garage, closets, camping gear, workbench items, donations—the list is virtually endless!
